Daily US Times, Kerala: Indian doctors say a 93-year-old Indian man has become the country’s oldest patient to beat the coronavirus.

A month ago, the man and his 88-year-old wife were tested positive for coronavirus. Hospital officials said, the couple has recovered and will be discharged in a few days.

The couple was infected by their daughter and son-in-law, who returned from Italy and lives in the southern state of Kerala.

As of Wednesday, India has reported 1,238 active cases of Covid-19, with five deaths.

According to India’s health ministry, 123 people have been recovered from the virus.

The novel coronavirus is most deadly to the elderly people, and even more fatal when a person has underlying medical conditions. The man also had hypertension and diabetes – which have proved to be fatal in so many cases across the world, while the woman also suffered from age-related problems.

As there are so many odds remained to the couple, their recovery made big headlines across the country and has been hailed by medical professionals.

Doctors told to the BBC, that the had to be put on a ventilator for 24 hours, before staging a remarkable recovery. Doctors did their best to help the couple to beat coronavirus.

Dr RP Renjin, who was part of the team that treated the couple at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital, said they were quite difficult and irritable when they were first admitted to hospital three weeks ago.

At first they separated from each other in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), but staff finally managed two rooms in the hospital which were separated by a glass partition, so they could see each other.

Dr Renjin said, ”They were happy once we put them there,” adding that his staff had become very fond of the couple, calling to them as “mother and father” out of affection.

They had to be eventually tracked down by a team of officials, but had already infected several family members by then.
