Adrien Brody shocked fans with how he treated his girlfriend Georgina Chapman at the Oscars as his “degrading” act was broadcast across the world.
The actor scooped up his second Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, thanks to his work in The Brutalist, about a Jewish-Hungarian architect who flees the horrors of the Second World War for a better life in the States. He beat Timothée Chalamet, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes and Sebastian Stan – appearing surprised as he ran up to the stage.
Amid the career defining moment, Adrien paused while walking to the stage to collect his award as he remembered he had chewing gum in his mouth. In a shocking moment, he spat the wad of gum into his hand and chucked it at Georgina who was standing feet away as she threw her arm out to try to catch it.
Fans have slammed the moment as they branded it “gross” as he also came under fire for his lengthy speech. Adrien continued to speak as the orchestra played, hinting it was time to get off the stage. In his speech, he thanked his “amazing partner” Georgina and her children.
He said: “I share this with my amazing partner, Georgina, who’s not only reinvigorated my own self-worth, but my sense of value and my values. And her beautiful children Dash and India. I know this is a, it’s been a roller coaster, but thank you for accepting me into your life. And Popsy’s coming home the winner.” But who is Georgina and what is her connection to disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein?
The former actress and model was married to the disgraced film producer and shares two children with him. They wed in 2007 before she left in in 2017 in the wake of allegations of sexual abuse against him. “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time,” she said in a statement at the time.
Their divorce was finalised in 2021 and upon their split, Georgina revealed she once thought she had a “happy marriage”. She told Vogue: “There was a part of me that was terribly naïve – clearly, so naïve. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be?”
The couple have been together since 2019 and their romance came two years after she filed for divorce from Weinstein. They first starting getting to know each other when on a trip to Puerto Rico with mutual friends and discovered they share the same birthday. By February 2020, Adrien and Georgina were confirmed to be an item.
The following year they made their red carpet debut as a couple as Georgina supported the actor for his film Clean at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2021. “Adrien and Georgina are very happy and secure in their relationship,” a source told Us Weekly. “She loves supporting him at awards shows. She’s so proud of his talent; his humor and talent were what drew her to him.” Georgina has been by Adrien’s side this awards season as he gave her shout outs in his acceptance speeches.
