Amazon Prime has stealthily slipped in an action horror ‘gem’ starring Nicolas Cage that’s not to be overlooked. The film, Mandy, first mesmerised cinema-goers in 2018 with its wild genre mashup.
It’s been on other premium platforms before, but now it’s up for grabs for Amazon subscribers. Nicolas Cage is cast as the vengeful lumberjack Red Miller, who goes after cult leader Jeremiah Sand (played by Linus Roache) and his fanatical followers for abducting and slaying his love, Mandy Bloom (portrayed by Andrea Riseborough). What unfolds is a blood-soaked quest for retribution, reports Surrey Live.
Mandy has racked up a whopping 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning plaudits for its soundtrack and cinematography, which are steeped in heavy metal vibes.
Discussing Film hailed it as “a violent, beautiful, deranged, and haunting work of art.” Meanwhile, another critic insisted: “No matter what side of the cinematic spectrum you sit on, Mandy needs to be seen to be believed.”
It’s no shocker that the title is already trending in the Amazon Prime movie library. Some movie fans acknowledged that it might not sit well with every palate.
A viewer shared their views online to explain: “Mandy is definitely not for everyone, but for those who enjoy more ethereal, experiential films that offer up equal doses of astounding cinematography and stylised storytelling, this will not disappoint. Of course, this being a thriller, don’t expect a calm journey.”
One particularly enthused cinephile couldn’t contain their admiration, as they gushed: “This is the greatest revenge flick ever made! It was so unbelievably surreal, violent, bloody, graphic, gory, and disturbing. This is the most violent movie I have ever watched in my entire life. It was so powerfully acted! This is how Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance should have been like!”
They went on to heap praises on the lead actor, writing: “This is by far Nicolas Cage’s greatest performance ever! He was FANTASTIC in this film. He seriously should have been nominated for and won an Oscar for Best Actor for his fantastic acting in this film.”
Another keen fan mentioned the allure of the film, saying: “Mandy isn’t a movie. It’s an experience. An experience which shouldn’t be missed at any cost. Director Panos Cosmatos deserves all the credit for his uncompromising vision, and audacity to bring something like this on screen.”
