Daily US Times, Beijing: Around 70 people have been trapped after a Chinese quarantine hotel in Quanzhou city collapsed. The hotel was being used as a coronavirus quarantine facility.
The incident happened at about 11.30 GMT.
Officials say about 35 people have been rescued from the rubble of the five-story Xinjia Hotel.
An online video of the rescue operation shows emergency workers combing through the building’s wreckage in the southern province of Fujian.
It is not clear yet why the building has collapsed or anybody has died.
Chine media reported that the hotel was being used as a quarantine facility for the people who had had close contact with coronavirus patients.
The hotel was opened in 2018 and had 80 guest rooms.
One woman, who claimed that her sister had been in the quarantine hotel, said: “I can’t contact them, they’re not answering their phones.”
“I’m under quarantine too [at another hotel] and I’m very worried, I don’t know what to do. They were healthy, they took their temperatures every day, and the tests showed that everything was normal.”
Fujian is relatively less affected provinces of China where 296 cases confirmed so far.
