Daily US Times, Baltimore: Authorities in Baltimore said five people were shot dead in eight separate shootings at the weekend, where some others are injured.

The first shooting of Saturday was reported at 2.30 a.m., where one died among three female victims. The 28-year-old woman died shortly after arriving at a hospital.

Few hours later, police responded to another shooting in southeast Baltimore. A 46-year-old and a 40-year-old man were wounded in their legs by the shooting.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m, police found a man fatally shot in southeast Baltimore. Less than half an hour later, another shooting happened in central Baltimore that left a 37-year-old man wounded.

A 38-year-old gunshot wound man was found in around 7 p.m. Saturday in northeast Baltimore.

The series of violence ended before 11 p.m. when officers found a 24-year-old man fatally wounded in northwest Baltimore.

Baltimore has one of the US’s highest homicide rates. The city recorded 348 homicides last year. It is the fifth consecutive year with more than 300 murders and the most violent year ever on a per-capita basis.

Brandon Scott, City council president and a Democrat running for mayor, condemned the violence.

“This violence is heartbreaking and must stop now,” Scott added.

He said he is planning to question Baltimore’s police commissioner and other agency heads about what they were doing in the affected communities before and after the shootings.
