Avram Glazer’s one-word response to selling Man Utd amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe criticism

Avram Glazer says he will not sell his stake in Manchester United after being approached by a reporter in Miami.

The American businessman, 64, and his family retain a controlling stake in the Premier League outfit despite sanctioning a partial sale to Ineos chief, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, last year.

The family’s continued involvement has not gone down well with the Manchester United fanbase, many of whom have protested against the Glazers and their late father, Malcolm, consistently since their leveraged buyout of the club was completed back in 2005.

It had been hoped by fans that the family would consider leaving Old Trafford for good after they opened up the floor to potential investors back in late 2022.

But they decided to stick around after receiving an offer from Ratcliffe that would enable them to remain in power – and Glazer simply responded “no” when he eventually answered a question from a Sky Sports reporter in the United States who asked if he would sell up completely as he left a hotel.

He was also asked about the criticism currently being levelled at Ratcliffe, who has been slammed for making 250 staff redundant since taking control of sporting operations at the club, with reports now claiming another round of job losses could be imminent.

But Glazer declined to answer the question, telling the reporter that he was on his way to meet the President, Donald Trump.

“I’m on my way to see the president right now,” he explained. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to talk about it right now.”

The question was put to Glazer on the day that Manchester United published their financial figures for the final quarter of 2024. Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) went on to condemn the “financial mismanagement” of the club after the figures showed they are in £1billion of total debt, consisting of £731m debt and over £300m in owed transfer fees.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult campaign on the pitch as well, with United currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League.
