Banish microwave grime fast using four kitchen pantry staples – and no scrubbing

Cleaning is hardly the most thrilling task on our to-do lists. It’s tedious, tiring and can require a fair bit of elbow grease.

However, there are some nifty tricks out there that can make this chore a breeze – particularly when it comes to cleaning your microwave. Thanks to some viral hacks circulating on TikTok, you can have your microwave gleaming in just five minutes, with zero scrubbing involved.

Cleaning guru Manish Jain, the founder of Ministry of Cleaning, shared some simple tips that can make a world of difference. All you need are a few pantry staples and you’re all set.

Here are four techniques to try for a spotless microwave in no time. It’s easier than you might think.

Lemons are a natural degreaser and cleanser, making them perfect for cutting through grime and banishing odours. This hack requires just a lemon, some water and a microwave-safe bowl.

Simply slice the lemon in half, squeeze juice into the bowl, add lemon halves and water, then microwave on high for three minutes. The mixture will boil and create steam.

Let it sit inside the microwave for another two minutes without opening the door, then remove the bowl. Wipe clean with a cloth.

The steam softens any food residue, making it easy to wipe away, while the lemon leaves a fresh scent.

White vinegar is a potent cleaning ally that can slice through grime and sanitise surfaces. Simply mix vinegar and water in a bowl, zap it in the microwave for five minutes, then let it sit for another five without opening the door.

After that, take out the bowl and wipe down the inside with a cloth. This trick is perfect for tackling stubborn stains and neutralising any lingering smells.

Another straightforward yet effective method involves using a damp cloth or sponge. Pop it into the microwave, heat on high for two minutes, then leave the door shut for an extra minute to let the steam build up.

Be careful when removing the cloth as it’ll be hot, but the steam will have loosened any dirt, making it easy to clean off without resorting to harsh chemicals.

If you’re fresh out of lemons or vinegar, just use water. Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water, heat on high for two minutes, then let it sit inside the microwave for another two minutes so the steam can soften dried food bits and grime. Finish by wiping the interior with a paper towel or microfibre cloth.

This quick, chemical-free method is a breeze and will spruce up your microwave with minimal effort. When it comes to keeping things clean, prevention is always better than cure, so remember to cover dishes with a microwave-safe lid or paper towel to avoid future spills.

Regularly wiping down the inside of your microwave will also help keep it in good condition and prevent grime from building up.

Moreover, by utilising these efficient and wallet-friendly tips, you can effortlessly integrate it into your weekly cleaning schedule and relish a squeaky-clean microwave with minimal fuss.
