Bayern Munich release Harry Kane injury statement as star ruled out for ‘indefinite period’

Harry Kane has given Thomas Tuchel an injury scare ahead of the England boss naming his first squad next month.

Kane limped out of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Celtic and went for a scan after a flare-up of a calf injury suffered in the build-up to the game.

England captain Kane has now been ordered to cut back on training, is likely to miss Bayern’s game with Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend but is hoping it will be a short lay-off.

Bayern issued a club statement saying the length of Kane’s absence was “unspecified” and added: “Harry Kane has to cut back over the coming days.

“The Bayern striker already had a knock to his calf before the Champions League match against Celtic on Tuesday night, which has led to a hematoma.”

Kane had also suffered a facial injury which made him a doubt for Celtic but should be fit to be named in Tuchel’s first squad for the World Cup qualifying double header with Albania and Latvia at Wembley next month.

England have also confirmed dates for two friendlies later this year. As reported by Mirror Football on January 23, England will face Senegal at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on June 10, three days after a World Cup qualifier in Andorra.

England will then return to Wembley Stadium to face Wales in a friendly on Thursday 9 October. That is five days before the return fixture with Latvia.

Three Lions boss Tuchel said: “The games against Senegal and Wales will present good challenges for us against two very different opponents.

“Facing a strong African team in a passionate city with rich football heritage and then a derby match at the iconic Wembley; two big occasions that can only help us on the road to the World Cup.

“While I know Wembley is our home, I also understand the importance of taking the team around the country when we are able to and the opportunity to experience playing at a famous old English stadium such as the City Ground is one we can all look forward to.”
