BBC Breakfast star says ‘I’ve got to go’ as he dashes off screen live on air

BBC Breakfast’s weatherman, Simon King, had a bit of an awkward moment on Saturday (February 15) when he faced a blunder during the live show.

While presenting today’s weather update, Simon was caught off guard as his phone alarm loudly interrupted, leaving Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson in fits of laughter.

“That’s my alarm telling me that I’ve got to go on Radio Four very, very shortly,” he confessed.

Unfazed, Simon carried on like a true pro, but not before Naga cheekily suggested: “So, shall we do two, three minutes of chat now?”

Simon humorously responded, “Well, if we do, I’ll be running up the stairs, and people will think I’ve had a heart attack,” prompting Ben to chime in with a light-hearted jab about Simon’s packed schedule.

Realising time was ticking, Simon hastily excused himself: “I’ve got to go, sorry!” and dashed off-screen. Naga couldn’t help but comment on the hilarity of the situation, saying it was “funny” while Ben confirmed, “He’s off,” as they continued with the programme.

Simon’s journey with the Met Office began in 2005, when he served as a forecaster in the Mobile Met Unit, doubling as a sponsored reserve officer in the Royal Air Force.

His career took him from RAF Benson to the skies over Iraq, and upon his return in 2008, he became a familiar face on BBC Weather, gracing screens across all BBC News platforms and BBC World.

On today’s edition of BBC Breakfast, hosts Naga and Ben brought viewers up to speed on the recent release of Israeli hostages from Gaza, a suspected shooting incident in Kent, and the outlawed practice of energy back billing.

They also delved into current health issues, with Clive Myrie spending a day at London’s Royal Free Hospital to witness firsthand how NHS pressures affect frontline staff, reports the Express.

Sports presenter Mike Bushell was also present in the studio, recapping Brighton’s impressive 3-0 triumph over Chelsea in last night’s Premier League match.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
