Daily US Times, Washington: Democratic presidential frontrunner and former VP Joe Biden holds the lead among black voters. A new poll shows.
The poll, conducted by Washington Post and non-partisan research firm, Ipsos is considered one of the most extensive studies so far on the views of the 2020 presidential race among black voters.
The poll shows Biden picked up 48 percent of the vote, a whopping 28 point lead over the next candidate in line, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Black voters consider Biden’s experience and ability to take on President Trump head to head as some of the reasons he’s garnered their support to date.
One of the most important regions in the South for primaries, Biden is doing even better at 53 percent.
Black voters under the age of 35 support Bernie Sanders at 42 percent. This is for his policies on student debt and housing. In this age group, Biden stands in the second position, having 30%. The poll proves Sanders’s popularity among young voters in other recent nationwide polling.
The poll was conducted online between January 2-8. 769 Democratic-leaning black voters took part in the survey.
No other Democratic candidate returned better than single-digit support. Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren got (9%) while former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey senator Cory Booker (both 4%).
