Daily US Times President-elect Joe Biden seeks unity among Americans against the Covid-19 pandemic and their political divisions while the man he will replace stoked the fading embers of his campaign to “turn the election over.”
Biden said in an address to the nation yesterday to put the surging coronavirus pandemic front and center, pledging to use the “vast powers” of the federal government and to change the course of the pandemic while he enters the Oval Office. But for that to work, the Democrat and former Vice President said, Americans must step up for their own safety and that of their fellow citizens.
Seeking their unity, Biden said: “I know the country has grown weary of the fight,” adding that “We need to remember we’re at war with the virus, not with one another. Not with each other.”
President Donald Trump, who has scarcely mentioned the coronavirus pandemic in recent days even as it has achieved record heights, remained fixated on his election loss.
He sent his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and other members of his legal team to meet Pennsylvania Republican state senators in Gettysburg. They again presented their accusations about the 3 November election and repeated allegations of Democratic malfeasance that have already disintegrated under examination by courts.
From the Oval Office, the president said: “We have to turn the election over.”
“This was an election that we won easily,” Mr Trump said.
The president claimed he had won the election by a lot, but did not provide any evidence supporting that.
