Daily US Times: President-elect Joe Biden is to receive his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on live television as part of a growing effort to influence and convince the American people the inoculations are safe.

Monday’s event will come the same day that a second coronavirus vaccine, produced by Moderna, will start arriving in places across the nation, joining Pfizer’s in the nation’s arsenal against the pandemic, which has now killed more than 317,000 people in the US and upended life around the globe.

Biden has said: “I don’t want to get ahead of the line, but I want to make sure we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take.”

The President-elect and his wife, Jill Biden, will also thank health care workers at the facility where they receive the vaccine, his incoming press secretary has said.

Last week, top government officials joined the first Americans to be vaccinated against coronavirus as part of the largest largest vaccination campaign in thecountry’s history.

Vice President Mike Pence also got vaccinated on live television. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other lawmakers were given doses Friday. They chose to publicize their injections as part of a campaign to convince Americans people that the vaccines are effective and safe amid skepticism, especially among Republicans.

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband are expected to receive their first vaccine shots next week.
