Blake Lively is seeking a protection order to shield those close to her from “violent” messages that have been unleashed amid her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
Hollywood has watched on in shock since Blake, 37, launched a legal complaint against her 41-year-old It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin in December of last year. Eyebrows were raised further when Justin then launched a counter suit accusing Blake of defamation and repetitional damage – with the legal drama engulfing the stars’ respective public relations teams as well as production companies.
In the intervening weeks, tensions have risen further as details about the complaint and counter complaint have generated headlines that have ricocheted around the world. Now it has been reported that Blake is urging a court to grant her and those close to her protections as she has become the target of threats.
While the star has already been granted court protection, Blake’s legal team returned to court on Thursday to urge authorities to do more to protect her, her family, and others close to her and the case. Her lawyer urged that some details of the case should be restricted to “Attorney’s Eyes Only” in order to limit the amount of shock headlines being generated by the case.
Legal documents show that Blake’s legal team submitted a letter to Judge Lewis J. Liman with the request for stronger protections around the case. Defining what would be considered to constitute material sensitive enough to be labelled “Attorney’s Eyes Only”, the letter reportedly suggests: “highly confidential and personal, sensitive, or proprietary nature that the revelation of such is likely to cause a competitive, business, commercial, financial, personal or privacy injury.”
The request goes on to claim that the justification of this would be due to the case involving: “high-profile individuals, to whom a duty of confidentiality is owed.” And outlining a request for greater protection, the letter notes: “As detailed in Ms. Lively’s Amended Complaint, Ms. Lively, her family, other members of the cast, various fact witnesses, and individuals that have spoken out publicly in support of Ms. Lively have received violent, profane, sexist, and threatening communications.”
The Mirror has contacted spokespersons of Blake and Justin for comment. The ongoing legal battle has been a source of huge public interest due to the A List parties at the centre of the drama.
While Blake and Justin are stars in their own right, Blake’s husband, the Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, has been pulled into the orbit of the legal battle – however he has denied allegations made against him. While chart topping superstar Taylor Swift has also been dragged into the headlines surrounding the case – with one detail claiming she had been involved in the casting of one of the characters of It Ends With Us. The Purple Haze singer has not been directly involved in the court proceedings.
There could be more than a full year of further drama surrounding the case – as it is not scheduled to begin in court until March 2026.
