The Laundrie family, parents of murderer Brian Laundrie, are facing a wall of contempt from their Florida community, resulting in a “unanimous” loathing so intense that locals have resorted to leaving dog poo on their property. Christopher and Roberta Laundrie’s neighbours have isolated them, a situation aggravated by the new Netflix documentary “American Murder: Gabby Petito”.
The film paints the couple as distant during Gabby’s time with their son and suggests they impeded police efforts when she was reported missing on 11 September 2021.
North Port local Miriam Woodby expressed her escalating fury about the series, declaring to the New York Post “The more I watched, the more p***** I got,” and confessing, “When I pass their house, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I hate them, and I’ve never even met them. I wish they’d just leave.”
A neighbour adjacent to the Laundries’ residence slammed them as “Just horrible people, in my belief,” adding vehemently, “It’s unanimous. No one wants anything to do with them.”
The mood in the community is bitter, with one neighbour expressing intense disdain: “I wish them nothing but the worst,” also venting, “Seriously. I hope they know how much we all hate them here. I hope they know they don’t have any friends.”
Jorge Ruiz, a local resident, revealed that the Laundrie family’s garden has been the site of contempt, with individuals flinging rubbish, including dirty diapers and dog waste, into their greenspace. Moreover, there have been instances where Roberta Laundrie faced verbal assaults as she navigated her way from her vehicle to her residence, reports the Mirror US.
The tragic saga of Gabby Petito has taken an even more sombre twist as further information comes to light about her covert struggle and the desperate moves she made to break free from Brian Laundrie. Commenting on the situation, Ruiz dryly remarked, “Yeah, my heart breaks for her,” before giving a severe rebuke.
“That’s what you get. That’s what you get when you prolong the pain of innocent people to protect someone you know is guilty. You reap what you sow.”
These statements emerge as neighbours divulge information about Petito’s secret pleas for assistance, with one describing how she watched the horror unfold right across her own street.
As detailed in a documentary, at the tender age of 22, Petito confided in a former boyfriend, “I have a plan,” signalling her resolution to leave 23 year old Laundrie. With firm intention, she declared, “I think I want to leave him. I’m going to do it. I have to figure out when to do it.”
A neighbour bluntly conveyed their indignation to The Post, saying: “That family destroyed her.”
In the summer of 2021, two young adventurers set off to explore the western U.S. in their white van, documenting their escapades on YouTube. However, the journey came to a tragic end when Laundrie returned to North Port alone on September 1, without Petito.
Receiving no information from the Laundries, Petito’s concerned family reported her missing on September 11. Tragically, her remains were discovered in the Grand Teton National Park, eight days later, with strangulation confirmed as the cause of death by Laundrie.
Amid despair over the Laundries’ refusal to aid the investigation, the US District Court of Wyoming issued an arrest warrant for Laundrie. Yet his parents kept mum about his location.
After weeks of searching, Brian Laundrie’s body was eventually found in a Florida nature reserve, along with personal items and a notebook that contained a confession to Gabby Petito’s murder. Despite repeated attempts by The Post, including phone messages and emails, the family’s attorney Steven Bertolino has not responded for comment.
In recent developments, new bodycam footage casts Christopher and Roberta Laundrie, the deceased’s parents, in a contentious light as they appear uncooperative with police inquiries into the Long Island native’s disappearance. The community, adorned with palm trees, is bracing itself as Monday looms with Netflix’s docuseries launch, reopening wounds and stirring unrest amongst neighbours.
