Fans of Bridget Jones have been left shocked after learning a secret about the set of Mad About the Boy.
Cinema lovers have been rushing to get tickets to watch the highly-anticipated fourth Bridget Jones film. Die-hard fans will be pleased to learn that their are plenty of nods to the first film in the latest release, plus some of the film’s most beloved classic characters are back, but one thing has changed – where she lives.
The last time we saw Bridget, the serial singleton was still in her iconic Zone 1 flat, writing in her diary on her sofa with a glass of chardonnay in hand.
In August last year, fans were thrilled when they saw Bridget Jones herself – actress Renée Zellweger – filming a scene in the snow in a very different neighbourhood – the upmarket but slightly further out Hampstead. In fact, many scenes in the film were shot in leafy north London as mum-of-two Mrs Darcy lives in a Victorian townhouse in the sought-after area.
But fans have been left shocked after realising Bridget’s new home is not actually a real house. It comes after @thehandbooknews shared a sneaky look at the Mad About the Boy set, and said: “You mean, it wasn’t actually filmed in a Hampstead townhouse?”
Fans rushed to comment, as one said: “So you are telling me it was not a real house? WHAT.” “I thought it was a real house,” said another. “What clever trickery is this?,” added a third. “Can’t believe that,” said another.
“This is actually incredible,” another applauding the set designers said. “This was excellent set dressing,” agreed one other. One other agreed: “The crew killed it on this.”
Others agreed they want their home to look like Bridget’s. “The literal perfect home,” said one. One other agreed, and commented: “I want this set for my actual home, it’s sooooo cosy.”
Earlier this month, it was revealed that pre-release tickets were outperforming sales of 2023’s smash hit Barbie – which made over $1.4 billion (£1.1 billion) at the global box office. Odeon told Screen Daily that 20% of tickets had been sold for previews of the movie that were screened on Thursday preview day, and a third were sold for Valentine’s Day, which was on Friday – with 70,000 fans booking their tickets in advance.
