Build A Bear customers confused after spotting ‘controversial’ outfits for teddies

People have been left flabbergasted after noticing some raunchy outfits for teddies in Build A Bear. While some have dubbed the outfits “disgusting,” others say they are “iconic”.

There’s no feeling for kids quite like getting a new toy, and since 2003 in the UK, teddy bear fans have loved heading down to their local Build A Bear branch to pick out their new furry friend. Kids can see their new pal get stuffed at the workshop before picking out their outfit, and taking them home in their special bear box.

But lately, the cute shop seems to have taken a “naughty” turn with the ‘After Dark’ collection, including a ‘Hugh Hefner’ outfit, a devil bear eating chocolate-covered strawberries, ‘cougar’ bear, leather skirts, and t-shirts with ‘on the prowl’, ‘zaddy’, and ‘I proper fancy you’, written across them. People online have been left totally baffled.

Taking to TikTok content creator Beau Penny, said: “It’s controversial to say the least.” Showing what is available in the collection, she said: “It gets progressively worse. No one’s teddy bear needs to wear a leather two piece and a fur coat. This one is the worst by far – who the f*** has put a Hugh Hefner teddy bear in Build A Bear?”

“This is wild, but kind of iconic,” she added. One individual commented and said: “Sorry, but I actually love them, I just ordered two.” “Omg I need them,” added another.

Also taking to TikTok last week, one confused woman and online comedian @cuzinsuzyofficial1 said: “Build A Bear After Dark collection – what are we thinking. How have I never heard of it? Apparently it’s been around for ages.”

Also unimpressed, one individual said: “It’s disturbing.” “Checked it out and no it’s just weird to me didn’t like the feeling I got,” commented one other.

“It’s only sold online not in shops and it’s stated to be for adults I think it’s just a bit of fun,” pointed out one other. One other said: “I’ve been seeing ads on my Instagram for it for ages and it shocked me at first but I just think it’s funny now, it’s only online though so I don’t think it’s an issue really.”

“I think they are ace,” said another.

The bears and outfits are listed on ‘The Bear Cave’ section of Build A Bear’s website, which opens with a warning. It reads: ‘The Bear Cave is filled with unexpected collabs and unique plush gifts, intended for shoppers 18 and older. Please confirm you want to proceed.’ This collection cannot be found in store, but only online.

First launched in 2019, Build-A-Bear After Dark continues to gain popularity with its offerings of hilariously unique gifts to celebrate life’s special moments for adults.
