Channel 5 star reveals impact of health issue that is ‘so serious’

Storm Huntley has shared her struggles with gestational diabetes during a heartfelt chat on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show, following recent studies.

The 37 year old TV star, who is expecting her second child, opened up about her battle with gestational diabetes, a condition she was first diagnosed with during her previous pregnancy in 2022. This health issue turns expectant mothers diabetic while they’re carrying their child.

Delving into the details, Storm explained: “There are quite a lot of symptoms that you get in pregnancy that overlap [with gestational diabetes] essentially. Sometimes it can be hard to diagnose.”

She recounted her own experience, saying: “My gestational diabetes wasn’t diagnosed until much later in my pregnancy with my first [child]. Because I’ve had it before, this time they were really hot off the press to test me for it.”

Storm, who is eight months pregnant, highlighted the serious nature of the condition, noting: “I have been dealing with it since very early on, which means my baby hasn’t grown too big.

“But the symptoms, the reason it is so serious is because you can develop things like pre-eclampsia, which is high blood pressure in pregnancy, and your baby tends to get much bigger, much quicker.”

She concluded by stressing the importance of being extra vigilant about sugar consumption for those affected by gestational diabetes, as well as for their children, reports the Daily Record.

Storm and her husband Kerr Okan, welcomed their first child, a son named Otis, in July 2022. In September 2024, she shared the news that they were expecting their second child, later revealing it’s a baby girl.

Storm and Kerr, the frontman of The LaFontaines, got engaged in October 2020 and exchanged vows in Scotland in September 2021.

The television presenter, who hosts her own show on Channel 5, is set to go on maternity leave on 10 March. Channel 5 has not yet announced who will fill in for her during her absence.

Jeremy Vine airs Monday – Friday from 9.15am on Channel 5.
