Pink Pony Club singer Chappell Roan has seen her career skyrocket after releasing several independent tracks after being dropped from her record label.
Not only did she open for Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour Tour and Guts World Tour, but Chappell’s song Good Luck, Babe! also achieved commercial success last year, soaring high in the music charts.
Several other tracks from her debut album have since charted, including Hot to Go! and she was also crowned Best New Artist at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Known for her distinctive curly hair and dramatic makeup, Chappell, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, hasn’t always sported this look. Fans were taken aback when a throwback video of one of her performances from seven years ago was recently shared online.
The video shows Chappell, 26, from Missouri in the US, with a fresh-faced look, minimal makeup, and her curly hair swept to the side. Dressed casually in a red jumper and green trousers, she performed a rendition of Dreams by The Cranberries in Charlottesville, VA, while opening for Declan McKenna’s ‘What do you think about the car?’ tour.
The clip quickly went viral after it was shared on X, garnering 2 million views and 58,000 likes. One fan exclaimed after watching it: “She looks like a baby, so young. And her voice is perfect for this song. Lovely.” While another confessed: “I didn’t know this was her.” A third chimed in: “She’s gorgeous as always.”
A fourth person who met her at the time added: “I love her so much, I met her back in 2018 during the tour along with Declan and have been a fan ever since! She was in the merch line after the show and was so so so sweet.”
Someone else also said she looked “angelic” while an additional fan noted: “Crazy how time flies-what a journey it’s been!”
Another concertgoer shared their past experience, remarking: “I saw her on this tour… she seemed pretty legit then, crazy to see how she’s blown up!”
Many others commented saying they wanted Chappell to release her own rendition of the song following her captivating cover.
The news comes as Chappell has seen her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess soar on various charts recently off the back of her Grammy triumph.
