Daily US Times, Beijing: A Chinese man was fined for tossing coins in the airplane which made the flight ‘vulnerable’.
The budget airline – called Lucky Air took the matter to court when they have found a 1 yuan coin news one of the plane’s jet engines.
The incident made the flight cancelled and leaving passengers stranded while replacement flights were arranged.
Lu Chao was ordered to $17,200 (£13,100) in compensation to the Lucky Air. In July last year, he admitted in the court that he threw the coins in an internal flight at Anqing Tianzhushan Airport in eastern China in February 2019.
The ruling was only recently made public.
Following the incident, Mr Lu was also detained by police for 10 days, charged with disturbing public order, but was made to pay compensation via a civil case. But he argued in court that the airline should have warned passengers not to throw coins at planes.
There are superstitions among some passengers as they toss coins in the airplane to see their flying fate. This is not the first time superstitious passengers have been caught throwing coins at plane engines.
A number of similar incidents happened in recent years, including an elderly passenger who delayed a flight in 2017.
