Daily US Times, New York: The Council on Foreign Relations has canceled a roundtable called “Doing Business Under Coronavirus”, which was scheduled on Friday in New York due to the outbreak of the infection itself. There are many other events also get cancelled because of it.
CFR has canceled other in-person conferences scheduled between March 11 to April 3, including roundtables in Washington and New York and national events across the US.
The CFR’s confabs are joining a long list of canceled or postponed gatherings, including the annual auto show in New York. The car show will be rescheduled to late August, said the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association on Tuesday.
Events in metro New York came under close scrutiny due to increase coronavirus outbreak in the city and in the suburb of New Rochelle.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference that the National Guard will be sent to the town to help close public gathering spaces in an effort to slow the spread of the outbreak.
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, there have been at least 50 major corporate events get cancelled so far. According to data collected by Bloomberg News, an estimated one million people were expected to attend these events.
There are now more than 1,000 confirmed cases in the US.
That’s almost double the number from a day before. At least 28 people have died.
The rise in cases is linked to an expansion in testing.
