Emmerdale fans were left biting their nails after Monday night’s episode which saw a limo crash and tragically resulted in Suzy Merton’s demise. The suspense escalated when it was disclosed that four beloved characters, who were being transported to hospital, were clinging on for dear life.
Viewers’ hearts then sank with the latest intense instalment as one of the characters was declared dead. Those at risk were Leyla Harding, Liam Cavanagh, Noah Dingle, and Amy Wyatt, with fans speculating about who might be permanently written out of the Yorkshire-based drama.
Roxy Shahidi, who has played Leyla Harding on Emmerdale since 2008, once shared her preferred exit strategy – definitely not via the death route. Discussing her dream departure, she quipped: “100% taxi! If you get in a taxi, you can always come back in a taxi. So, you want the taxi really because it leaves that door fluid,” reports Leeds Live.
Speaking on Steph’s Packed Lunch in 2023, she said: “You don’t want to die; it’d be too sad to die. You’ve known that character for years and years and years and you’ve invested so much. I couldn’t do it, I’d weep.”
Leyla’s current dire straits in an ambulance isn’t the first brush with danger she’s had on Emmerdale, having been previously assaulted and kidnapped by drug dealer Callum. Tonight’s show has got tongues wagging among viewers, speculating if we’re witnessing Leyla’s last moments, though some suspect it might be Liam who’s facing their final scene.
A concerned fan speculated on social media: “I think it’s Liam that doesn’t make it. Tonight’s episode shows some of them getting taken to hospital, the spoilers online show the person dead has a head support brace on. The only one that has that as they enter the ambulance is Liam.” Another remarked: “Liam as the person was laid flat Leyla was raised up a bit.”
It comes as Emmerdale star Lisa Riley issued a bold statement as eager fans await to see the outcome of the crash. Lisa – who was initially on the show playing Mandy Dingle from 1995 to 2001, before returning in 2019 – said that it was the “best episode” she’s “ever” seen.
Beside a photo of the limo sinking into the lake, she wrote on Instagram: “Honestly TONIGHTS episode of @emmerdale 7.30pm is the best episode I have EVER EVER EVER seen, in all my years, the drama, the performances, could not be more proud of our #emmerdale team. CONGRATULATIONS EMMERDALE.”
