< 1 Min Read

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued extreme cold warnings for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent for Monday and Tuesday.

Wind chill values in the region could make it feel like –30 C late Monday night and into Tuesday morning, the weather agency said. The forecasted high on Monday is –12 C, and –14 C Tuesday with low temperatures of –18 C and –20 C respectively.

The extreme cold could persist into Wednesday in some areas.

The weather agency is warning people to watch for cold-related symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

It is also advising people to dress warmly, wear layers so they can remove clothes if they get too warm, and ensure their outer layer is wind resistant.

“If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside” it said in the advisory.

“Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.”
