Daily US Times, South Africa: Tiny mountainous country Lesotho’s first lady Maesaiah Thabane has been charged with murdering her husband’s former wife. The incident gripped the kingdom.

Just two days before Prime Minister Thomas Thabane’s inauguration in June 2017, Lipolelo Thabane was shot dead outside her home in the capital Maseru.

Ms. Maesiah, 42, appeared in court on Wednesday and taken to custody with remand after the murder charge.

Charge against her says, she attempted to murder a second woman who was with the former first lady the night she was killed.

The murder shocked the small kingdom fully surrounded by South Africa.

Pressure has been mounting to the 80-year-old Prime Minister to resign. He announced last month he would respect the wishes of the ruling party and would resign from office. But he did not declare any date for that.

Maesaiah Thabane’s lawyer did not make any comment on the issue. Police said that first lady Maesaiah Thabane became a prime suspect after she failed to appear for questioning in January in connection to the killing.

She later reported herself on Tuesday morning at a police station close to the border with South Africa.

Before the first lady killed her, the Prime Minister and his first wife were negotiating their divorce.

According to local media reports, Prime Minister remarried less than three months after her death.
