Daily US Times: Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz being investigated by the Justice Department over sex trafficking allegations. The Florida Republican made a name for himself when he arrived on the US Capitol as a conservative firebrand on TV and staunch defender of former President Donald Trump.
Behind the scenes, Matt Gaetz gained a reputation in the US Congress over his relationships with women and bragging about his sexual escapades to his colleagues, CNN reported it citing multiple sources.
Mr Gaetz allegedly showed off to other lawmakers videos and photos of nude women he said he had slept with, including while on the House floor, the sources including two people directly shown the material, told CNN.
The sources said the Republican lawmaker displayed the images of women on his phone and talked about having sex with them. According to one source, one of the videos showed a naked woman with a hula hoop.
“It was a point of pride,” one of the sources said of Mr Gaetz.
There is no indication yet that these pictures are connected to the DOJ investigation.
The 38-year-old Congressman was elected to Congress in 2016 and has been at the center of a number of controversies in his four-plus years in Congress.
But he has now embroiled in easily his biggest scandal yet, after the Department of Justice began investigating him in the final months of the Trump presidency under then-Attorney General William Barr as part of a larger investigation into another Florida politician.
