GB News’ Nana Akua reveals fiancé’s mystery identity and says ex-prisoner is ‘reformed’

Nana Akua has finally revealed the identity of her fiancé after keeping GB News viewers in suspense throughout the day on Britain’s Newsroom.

After getting engaged in the romantic setting of Venice, Italy, Nana announced that she is set to marry reformed gangster Stephen Gillen. Gillen, who has spent years in the public eye, turned his life around completely after serving a 17-year prison sentence. Addressing his past, Nana explained: “He was in prison many years ago, but he has transformed his life entirely.”

Her co-host, Ben Leo, then asked if Gillen was a “tough guy,” to which she replied: “He is a very tough guy, a very hard man, yes.” Nana went on to share the story of their first meeting, which happened two years ago when she interviewed Gillen on GB News. “I remember thinking, ‘Why is this man so shy? What’s wrong with him? Speak properly’” she recalled with a laugh.

Their connection developed over time, and after Gillen parted ways with his previous partner, the two began dating. When asked who made the first move, Nana revealed: “He chased me.” She broke the news earlier in the broadcast, catching her co-host completely off guard. Holding up her ring, she playfully remarked, “It looks like my dating days are over.”

A stunned Ben Leo admitted he was completely unaware, exclaiming, “Are you joking? Wow! Nana Akua is engaged, and she’s just announced it live on GB News.” Their conversation was briefly interrupted as the show cut to news with Tatiana Sanchez, but upon returning to Britain’s Newsroom, Ben was quick to revisit the topic, reiterating, “For anyone just tuning in – our very own Nana Akua is now engaged.”

Nana had playfully teased viewers about the identity of her fiancé, suggesting that all would be revealed in time. The television presenter opened up about her romantic engagement story, sharing that her partner chose a stunning European setting to pop the question. She revealed: “I was taken to Venice. It was literally the best proposal ever. It was in a palace, he knew that if he did that, I couldn’t say no.”

Eager fans quickly swarmed the comments section to express their joy for the TV star’s happy news. One admirer commented: “We love you in our house, Nana, I’m so pleased for you”, while another exclaimed: “We love you Nana, what a very lucky partner.”

The announcement came amid news that Will Hollis has announced his departure from the channel after a three-and-a-half-year stint, expressing gratitude to his colleagues and audience alike. The reporter has been a familiar face covering important locations including Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, and Lincoln.

Reflecting on his time with the channel, the 30 year old journalist posted: “My time at GB News is coming to an end. I look back at three and a half years thankful for every opportunity and challenge for helping me grow as a journalist.

“A special thanks to the team, contributors, and audiences for making it possible.” Farewell wishes poured in from colleagues like Royal correspondent Cameron Walker who said: “A pleasure, as always, Will. Good luck with your next adventure!”, while Ben Leo also voiced his encouragement: “Good luck, Will. But you don’t need it. You’ll be great whatever you do.”
