Daily US Times, Washington: The U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House of Representative will vote legislation to limit President Donald Trump’s military actions on Iran.
Her comment came on Sunday amid high tensions between Iran and the U.S. after the letter killed General Qasem Soleimani.
Ms Pelosi wrote a letter Democratic members of the House, where she said the “provocative and disproportionate” airstrike on Soleimani “endangered our service members, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran. “
Freshman Michigan Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin is set to lead the resolution. Slotkin is a former Department of Defense and CIA analyst and from a swing district outside Detroit.
She also thanked the lawmakers for their ‘patriotic leadership’ during this tense period. The resolution will be introduced and voted on this week.
Democratic Senator Tim Kaine has introduced a similar resolution in the Senate as well.
The Democrats move to curb President Trump’s war powers after a U.S. drone strike killed the senior Iranian military leader. The attack created a major escalation and lawmakers said that could lead to war.
President Trump’s critics say he choose this specific time to attack the Iranian General to shift the focus from his impeachment hearings. Trump was impeached on December 18 last year, and his Senate hearing is yet to be started.
Democratic presidential candidate Senator Elizabeth Warren indicated the question pointing the time of the attack.
Trump’s Senate impeachment hearing might start next week.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi didn’t send the impeachment articles to the Senate. She has to send the passed impeachment article to the Senate first, which she didn’t do yet claiming she wants surety of an impartial Senate trial.
Iran Vowed Severe Revenge
After the US killed Iran’s Quds force leader, tensions between the countries increased to a record high. Iran said they would take severe revenge of the killing. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned the Americans to have to suffer ‘not only today but also in coming years’.
A top Irani military adviser said yesterday they would retaliate ‘against US military sites’.
The retaliation already started. Rocket strikes in the green zone of Baghdad’s Green Zone, US embassy was nearby. Another strike took place at a US army base in Kenya, where at least three American citizens were killed.

Esmail Ghaani was named the new chief of Quds Force. “We promise to continue martyr Soleimani’s path with the same force… and the only compensation for us would be to remove America from the region”, he said.
