Iconic UK landmarks receive giant Love Hearts in Valentine’s Day surprise

Some of the UK’s most beloved tourist spots got a sweet treat this Valentine’s Day, with giant six-foot Love Heart sweets popping up at various locations.

These super-sized versions of the well-known sweets, complete with their charming and romantic messages, were hand-delivered to iconic sites across Wales and the South West.

Plymouth’s Smeaton’s Tower received a Love Heart with ‘You Shine’ on it, while Cardiff Castle was graced with one that read ‘For Keeps’.

Each massive Love Heart came with a secret love letter, filled with words of admiration for the landmarks, the dedicated staff, and their significance to the local area.

The love letter, addressed “To Wales and the South West on Valentine’s Day,” declared affection for the region’s breathtaking scenery and acknowledged the crucial role tourism plays in its social and economic wellbeing.

Great Western Railway orchestrated the grand gesture of delivering these Love Hearts.

GWR spokesperson Amanda Burns commented: “We know just how much work and effort is put in by our tourism partners, so we wanted to share our love for them and reaffirm our promise to keep connecting people to their wonders.”

Their passionate letter didn’t stop there: “We just can’t keep it in any longer. We love you. Truly, madly, deeply… How could we not? You are breathtakingly beautiful. Your rolling hills, golden beaches, wild moors, and ancient towns and cities stir hearts and minds.

“It’s not just your beauty that has us smitten it’s what you do. You are the beating heart of tourism and leisure, where visitors come to escape and explore the extraordinary. You create jobs, fuel local businesses, and unite communities you make this region irresistible.”

Extra Love Hearts were personally delivered to the SS Great Britain in Bristol, with the old ship being hailed as ‘Steamy’, and to Oxford Castle and Prison, which was affectionately labelled a ‘Heart Stealer’.

Sarah-Louise Heslop from Swizzels, the confectionery company behind Love Hearts, partnered with GWR for this Valentine’s campaign. She remarked:.

“We are excited to see visitors to the British landmarks sharing photos with the iconic Love Hearts and their fun messages. Love Hearts have been made in the UK for over 70 years, and they remain the perfect way to ‘Share the Love’.”

This Valentine’s Day, love was truly in the air, all thanks to Wales, the South West, and a very sweet gesture.
