Kate Abdo’s husband Malik Scott mocked Jamie Carragher in an appearance on CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage on Wednesday.
Carragher landed himself in hot water last season after he made a joke about the couple’s relationship live on air. After Manchester United fan Abdo said she was “too loyal” to wear an Arsenal, Carragher responded “not to Malik”.
Scott, a former professional boxer turned coach who notably trained Deontay Wilder ahead of his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury, responded by threatening to “show up in a physical manner” if Carragher did anything to “upset” his then partner.
“It was not something I lost any sleep over because I noticed the way Kate handled it was very, very well, and Jamie was just being Jamie and I have no problem with him,” he said. “As long as Kate is happy, I have no problem.
“Now if he makes Kate upset then I have a serious problem and he’ll get a call from me, and if he doesn’t pick up my call I’ll show up in a physical manner for him.”
However, Carragher did apologise for his comment and Scott, who tied the knot with Abdo back in September, poked fun at the Liverpool legend as he joined their coverage of Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City.
After fellow pundit Micah Richards asked if everything was “good” between Scott and Carragher, he showed off the hoodie he was wearing which had the names of all four panellists. Carragher’s name, though, was crossed out and the reveal garnered plenty of laughter from the panel.
Scott has previously praised the light-hearted nature of the panel’s coverage, stating back in December: “I think almost everything is funny there. I think that panel is the best panel in sports. They never had a dry joke to me. I look forward to the show. I’m always laughing with it.
“What people seem to have a problem with, what people seem to tease her about, is always the things that I love the most. I love that, you know, the joke that they were having about the team Brest and how that went on as an ongoing joke.
“I didn’t mind it at all. I understand show business. I understand the show. I understand the panel, and I understand certain jokes sometimes. It’s good, and it brings a different light, and it brings more opinions to the platform, and that’s what matters most.”
