Katie Price was photographed cuddling her new 10-week-old Cocker Spaniel, Rookie, after a petition was launched to ban her from owning pets.
Reports indicate that at least eight of her animals have passed away under her care, including five dogs, a horse, and a chameleon.
A petition calling for her to be slapped with a lifetime ban has attracted 37,000 signatures to date. Animal charity PETA sent Katie an open letter earlier this year offering her £5,000 if she signs a contract not to keep another pet, claiming “things have gone horribly wrong with many of the animals under her supervision”.
A significant number of Katie’s pets have lost their lives in road accidents. In June last year, her German Shepherd Blade was struck on the busy A24, close to her home in East Sussex.
“Words can’t express the lost of my best friend my protector my absolutely everything who had sadly passed away today,” wrote the star on Instagram. “I have no words to say how I’m feeling but numb and shocked rip Blade.”
Speaking out after her ordeal, Katie told fans she believes her guard dog was killed on purpose in a ‘sick’ attack against her.
Blade’s death came six months after Katie’s Pomeranian Sharon was killed in a crash on the same road. The year before, her Alsatian Queenie, a gift from ex Kieran Hayler, was allegedly hit by a pizza delivery driver who left her to die.
Katie also lost her Alsatian Sparkle on the A24 in 2020 and one of her horses in 2017 after it escaped a field. In July 2020, her French bulldog Rolo died in a ‘freak accident‘ after getting trapped under an electric armchair.
Katie fought valiantly to resuscitate the pup, administering CPR and rushing him to the vet, where she learned it was sadly too late. “There was nothing they could do, but they did say he wouldn’t have died in pain, it was quick,” she explained on YouTube, revealing how she had been packing in another room while daughter Bunny played with the dog in front of other adults.
“Basically I was in the other room because we’re going on holiday, packing their suitcases,” said Katie, “There was five people in the other room, so people saying the puppy was left, it wasn’t left at all. And it just got stuck under one of the chairs.”
Rollo, who replaced Princess’s dog Sparkle, tragically died after getting crushed under a reclining chair. In her memoir This Is Me, Katie suggested Princess may have accidentally overdone the CBD oil given to the dog. Katie’s other pets include Precious, a gift from ex-fiancé Carl Woods, and Tank, whom she reportedly gave away after it no longer suited her Instagram image. She also rehomed her Alsatian puppy Bear in 2019 after multiple escapes. Katie previously owned Sphynx cats Dobby and Hagrid, whom she claimed to sell in 2017.
A source previously told The Sun that one reason Katie gets fluffy animals is because they “look cute on Instagram.”
The source said: “Katie only got [Tank] a few months ago but she gave him away to her electrician. She loves getting puppies that look cute on Instagram but when they start to grow up and she has to train them she loses interest.”
When Katie first welcomed Tank into her home, a source told the publication: “Katie has always lived by her own rules and she’s adamant she’ll prove her critics wrong and give Tank a loving home.”
