Katie Price has had one of her bankruptcy’s discharged as she faced a hearing to settle her finances.
She was due to face questions over her finances this morning at a hearing known as a public examination after first being declared bankrupt in 2019. Bankruptcy orders typically end after a year in England and Wales, but the automatic discharge of her first bankruptcy was suspended, meaning she was still bound by its terms.
The suspension was lifted by Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Sebastian Prentis on Tuesday, backdated to December 7 last year, meaning the bankruptcy will now be discharged. Barrister Darragh Connell, representing the trustee of Price’s bankruptcies, said: “The public examination of the first bankruptcy can be formally concluded in open court.”
Katie – who was not in attendance at the hearing – was also declared bankrupt in March last year over an unpaid tax bill worth more than £750,000, which remains in force. A public examination concerning that bankruptcy was adjourned until April 8.
She has been declared bankrupt twice despite once having an estimated fortune of £45 million thanks to her modeling career, book deals, and television appearances. Katie admitted her habit of supporting ex-partners’ lavish lifestyles and legal expenses led to her first bankruptcy in 2019 over debts totalling £3.2 million.
In March 2024, Katie was declared bankrupt again due to an unpaid tax bill of over £760,000. The High Court ruled that the former Page 3 model would lose half of her monthly earnings in order to pay off her debts. Four companies were listed, including the adult-only subscription site OnlyFans, as well as a photographic agency, Backgrid. Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Catherine Burton said the four companies are “obligated to deduct 40 per cent of the income due to being paid to Ms Price” each month for the next three years.
Over the summer, Katie was arrested at Heathrow Airport in front of her disabled son Harvey and taken into police custody after skipping previous hearings. An arrest warrant was issued by a judge after she failed to attend a hearing relating to her bankruptcies. She previously said she was “not running from matters”, but was “away working for a documentary on corrective surgeries” during the court hearing.
A judge gave her another court date for August 27 and warned: “You have to attend that date, no ifs or buts, no going abroad, no holidays.” “I will move my diary for it,” Katie replied. She was served an eviction notice ordering her to leave her £2million Mucky Mansion by the end of May before the bailiffs arrived. Katie was also instructed to hand over six cars including – a Volkswagen Beetle, a Nissan, two Range Rovers, Suzuki Vitara and Infiniti FX50 – on July 5.
In her August court appearing, the hearing was adjourned. Her lawyer, Bertie Beor-Roberts, said: “We are asking the court to adjourn the examination generally. The general purpose is to permit Price to attend a private interview with the trustee and then to continue to engage constructively.”
It has now been confirmed Katie did attend a private interview on September 24 and that this had provided “sufficient provision of information” to avoid the need for a public examination concerning her first bankruptcy. Barrister Darragh Connell, representing the trustee of Price’s bankruptcies, said: “As to the second bankruptcy, the trustee’s position is that pursuant to information provided by Ms Price, the trustee has been undertaking inquiries with third parties.
“The outcome of those inquiries is not yet known.” He continued: “It may well transpire to be the case that an application is made to suspend discharge for a limited period, but that is not before the court today.”
Just last month, Katie insisted her financial woes will soon be over with the end of her second bankruptcy. The former Page 3 model spoke to her sister Sophie on her podcast, The Katie Price Show, and gushed: “There’s just nothing negative around me. The bankruptcy ends in March. Woo, woo! That bit ends, so I’m back on track.”
