Lily Allen has slammed US doctors for prescribing her medication that drove her “crazy”.

The singer, 39, who recently took time out at a treatment facility to focus on her wellbeing for the sake of her daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, opened up about how her life spiralled due to the antidepressants she was prescribed.

On her Miss Me? podcast with pal Miquita Oliver, Lily confessed: “The medication that I was on last year sent me f****** crazy. So I’ve had to change.” She continued, revealing the struggle to find balance: “I’ve had to come off of that medication and start a new one.”

The star, reportedly having parted ways with actor husband David Harbour, recalled a friend’s caution about American healthcare: “Before I came to America, my friend Olivia said to me, ‘Just be really careful of the doctors over there and the prescriptions that they prescribe you for things.'”

Lily believes she was misled by the treatment she received: “But I really think I was done a bit of a number on by one of the antidepressants I got put on and it really did not work for me.” She acknowledged other issues but stressed the negative impact of the medication: “There were other things going on too. But yes, the pills weren’t helping.”

These revelations mark Lily’s comeback to her fittingly named Miss Me? podcast after a hiatus for her mental health. Lily Allen’s recent absence saw Mabel, Jordan Stephens from Rizzle Kicks, and comedian Simon Amstell step in to fill her shoes.

When Lily announced she was taking a break from the spotlight on her podcast in early January, she candidly shared with listeners: “You’re not going to hear me for a few weeks, listeners … I’m finding it hard to be interested in anything. I’m really not in a good place.”

She opened up about her struggles, saying, “I know I’ve been talking about it for months, but I’ve been spiralling and spiralling and spiralling, and it’s got out of control.” On the topic of her mental health, Lily confessed, “I tried, I mean, I came to the Christmas lunch, the ‘Miss Me? ‘ Christmas lunch, and I had a panic attack and had to go home.”

Recounting another difficult moment, she said, “I went to see something at the theatre the other night with my [friends] Carlo and Claire, and I had to leave at halftime.”
