Britain is becoming a “failed state” and is entering a “dark age”, Liz Truss has told a half-empty room at a right wing US conference.
Speaking at CPAC, a huge US MAGA gathering in Washington DC, the former PM called for a Trump-style “revolution” in the UK. And she teased the launch of her own “free speech media network” – to “take on the Britain bashing corporation, which is what we call the BBC.”
“This is truly the golden age of America,” she told the modest audience. “But I’m sad to report that Britain is living in a dark age. We have a socialist government, with commissars ruling over us who are leading our country in a terrible direction.”
Taking aim at “establishment stooges” in Westminster, she said: “Let’s be honest, Britain isn’t working. The British system is deeply rotten. Britain is becoming a failed state.”
She went on to decry police investigating social media posts, and enforcing safe zones around abortion clinics. And she raised a series of controversial failed deportations of illegal migrants on human rights grounds – before turning to Britain’s energy supply.
“I was the only Prime Minister who allowed fracking …sadly I wasn’t in office long enough to actually make it happen,” she said, prompting laughter from the audience.
Ms Truss, the least successful Prime Minister in UK history, who was removed from office by her own party after just 49 days, called for the dismantling of the “British deep state.”
“We want a Trump revolution in Britain,” she said. “We want to flood the zone. We want Elon and his nerd army of Musk rats examining the British deep state.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, we missed the first American revolution in 1776, in fact it was a revolution against us. But we want to be part of the second American Revolution.”
Ms Truss ended her speech by announcing the forthcoming launch of her own “uncancellable” media network.
“We are establishing a new Free Speech Media Network, in conjunction with our American allies – including the great people here at CPAC,” she said.
“It will be uncensorable and uncancellable. It will take on the Britain Bashing Corporation, which is what we call the BBC. It will take on Starmer and his socialists and it will take on the censors of Germany. All of the people here are working to make America great again,” she added. “I believe that we can make Britain great again.”
