Fans of Love Island have reacted to Sammy Root placing fifth in the All Stars final with Elma Pazar on Monday night.
The Only Way is Essex co-stars Sammy, 23, and Elma, 32, were finalists on the second series of All Stars after having been coupled-up on the ITV2 show. It was announced by host Maya Jama during the final that they had placed fifth.
Sammy had won Love Island with his now ex-partner Jess Harding back in 2023 and there had been high hopes for Elma to make it far on the spin-off as she was voted the “favourite girl” by the public just three weeks ago. Since then though, the pair have attracted criticism over some situations in the villa, with fans having notably ‘turned on’ Elma amid tension with co-star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.
Following the news that Sammy and Elma had placed fifth in the live final on Monday night, viewers shared their thoughts. One person wrote on X: “Sammy is FUMINGG.” Another said: “You can tell Elma and Sammy thought they would win.”
A third person wrote beside laughing emoji: “Sammy’s disappointed he didn’t win again! He thought Elma being favourite girl would get him the 50k.” According to the Sun, one fan said: “Sammy’s face says it all, bro definitely thought he had another 50K.”
Another wrote during the final: “Sammy looks like he’s done with Elma already and they haven’t even landed yet.” One viewer wrote beside a laughing emoji: “Sammy is ready to leave Elma as soon as they are out.” Whilst someone else teased on the platform amid the end of the series: “By next week I’m certain Sammy and Elma won’t be together.”
Not everyone felt the same though. One person wrote: “Sammy is definitely feeling Elma.” Another said: “Say what you want about Elma but her and Sammy have a clear connection and they’re so cute together.” Whilst a third said: “Sammy is smitten with Elma looool, the difference between him now vs him with Jess.”
Whilst being interviewed by host Maya following the news that they had come first, the couple were asked if they had expected to make it to the final. Elma teased: “We got here by the skin of our teeth, let’s be honest. I was devastated.” Sammy was seen laughing as she made the remark.
It comes after it was revealed on Sunday night’s episode that the pair had been among the bottom three in a public vote for viewers’ favourites to win. Catherine Agbaje and Omar Nyame, as well as Harriett Blackmore and Ronnie Vint, were also in the bottom three.
A number of previously dumped islanders returned to determine which of the three couples would leave, with the group of former stars including Olivia Hawkins and Marcel Somerville. Tina Stinnes ended up casting the deciding vote as Harriett and Ronnie, and Elma and Sammy, both had five votes by the time that she shared her decision. Tina voted to dump Harriett and Ronnie, meaning they missed out on a spot in the final.
Later following the news that Sammy and Elma placed fifth in the final, those running his Instagram account while he’s away posted a message about the result. It read: “5th place. We want to thank every single one of you from the bottom of our hearts, who have loved and supported Sammy and his journey with Elma over the past few weeks.
“We are so proud to have watched the growth and maturity in Sammy and to watch his relationship with Elma blossom has made us all smile. The highs and the lows, they are our 5th place finalists! We can’t wait to see what SELMA do next. Proud is an understatement, our WINNERS.”
