Man Utd suffer double blow as full extent of Amad and Kobbie Mainoo injuries emerge

Amad could require surgery on the ankle ligament injury he suffered in training as Manchester United face up to the fact the Ivorian winger may not play again this season.

The 22-year-old has been the Red Devils’ best player this season and has caught the eye under Ruben Amorim, who has endured a baptism of fire at Old Trafford.

Amad joins a growing United injury list which also includes Kobbie Mainoo, who it emerged last week had also suffered an injury in training.

And it now seems as though both players could be absent for longer than expected according to The Mail, with Mainoo set to be missing for around six weeks with a calf strain and Amad potentially requiring surgery.

There is better news on the injury front when it comes to Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer, though, both of who missed Sunday’s 1-0 loss against Tottenham. Their injuries are not as bad as first feared, while Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen are likely to be back in contention for this weekend’s trip to Everton after recovering from illness.

Amorim named a host of academy stars on the bench against Spurs at the weekend with a number of first-team players unavailable. He went on to confirm in his pre-match interview with Sky Sports that Amad was set to miss the rest of the season.

“I think he [Amad] will be out for the rest of the season, yes,” the United boss explained. “There are seasons when everything happens at the same time. Maybe we will find new ways to create situations.”

Amad himself addressed his injury in a social media post shortly after suffering it emerged that he was hurt. He wrote: “Extremely disappointed to be writing this message in such a crucial time of the season. Unfortunately, I will be out for some time with an injury.

“I will come back stronger than ever!! Time to support the boys from the outside. Still loads to play for.”

United are currently 15th in the Premier League table after falling to defeat against Spurs. They will be hoping to rebound when they travel to Everton at the weekend.
