A 14-year-old schoolboy has tragically died just days after a horror electric scooter crash. Emergency services were called out to Southmoor Road in Manchester following reports of a collision at around 4pm on March 19.

He and another boy, also 14, were riding an electric scooter on Timpson Road, when they collided with a car in Southmoor Road. One of the boys attended hospital in a life-threatening condition. He sadly died from injuries sustained in the crash on Thursday morning. Greater Manchester Police says his family are being supported by specialist officers as enquiries continue into the collision, and have asked for privacy as they grieve.

The second boy luckily escaped the crash without any serious or life-threatening injuries, Manchester Evening News reports. No arrests have been made in connection with the collision and police are continuing to ask for information regarding the incident.

Detective Constable Steven Pennington, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A young boy has tragically lost his life following this collision and our condolences are with his family and friends.

“Our work into the circumstances of the collision is still ongoing and we continue to ask anyone with relevant information to please get in touch with us as we continue our work.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage is asked to get in touch with officers. Information can be passed onto police by calling 101 or going online, quoting log 2263 of March 19, 2025. Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

The news comes as Greater Manchester Police have locked down an Oldham park after “remains” were discovered by a member of the public this afternoon. Officers were dispatched to Werneth Park on Frederick Street in Oldham at around 2.40pm after a member of public found an item, which is believed to be “remains” according to authorities.

All the entrance gates to the park are shut and have police tape draped across them. Witnesses report seeing a huge emergency services presence at the park, with the whole space closed to the public.

It is not yet known whether they are human or animal remains. Police have confirmed an investigation is underway and the park remains shut this evening.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “At around 2.40pm today (Friday 28 March 2025), we were called to reports of a suspicion item being found by a member of the public in Werneth Park on Frederick Street in Oldham. Officers remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing.

“This is an isolated incident and there is no threat or risk to the local community .It is believed that the item which has been found are remains from a human or an animal. At this early stage in the investigation we cannot confirm who the remains belong to.”

A man who lives close to the park said he saw some of the police cars and vans go into the park “with shovels.” He said: “There were loads of police cars and vans, they parked up and all went into the park, just now I saw some of them going in with shovels.”
