Martin Lewis halts This Morning as he crashes debate to clash with star

Martin Lewis has interrupted a debate on This Morning to give his thoughts on inclusive spaces, clashing with contributor Baroness Sayeed Warsi over the topic of urinals.

The ITV show opened up with a discussion over new health and social care minister Ashley Dalton’s previous comments, where she said that people can identify as llamas and should be treated with “dignity and respect”.

Speaking about women-only spaces, Sayeed suggested in the debate with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley and fellow contributor Gyles Brandreth that there should be more neutral spaces to avoid “other-ing” people who identified as non-binary.

“Let’s not also make this a toxic debate where we’re trying to other somebody else,” Sayeed said. “So just create neutral spaces where everybody feels safe and private in that space.”

Martin Lewis – who was positioned off-camera for the next segment – the jumped in. “Can I say something about that?” he said, at which point hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley turned away from contributors to face him.

“I totally agree with you on the premise but there is one point with neutral spaces that in a space and efficiency management system, urinals are the most efficient way for men to go to a toilet and you want five or six of them otherwise you’re going to have large queues at any venue.

“So the problem is simply a logistic one of neutral spaces is you have cubicles for everybody whereas you can put 10 urinals in the space of three cubicles, men can filter through a lot more quickly and it brings out the queues bringing in that way.”

He added: “I agree but logistically for operational sites, it’s more difficult.”

Sayeed responded by mock shouting, telling Martin: “The only thing I’d say is welcome our world Martin because women spend their whole lives queueing outside toilets so you can do the same!”

It didn’t stop Martin from continuing with his point, with the presenter saying: “Yes but if you put men into the same toilets, the queue is going to be even longer.”

Earlier today, Lorraine Kelly was left red-faced after making an awkward comment to Good Morning Britain star Ed Balls in a slip of the tongue.
