Mindy Kaling leaves fans cringing over Meghan Markle’s ‘out of touch’ children’s party tip

Mindy Kaling has left fans cringing after revealing Meghan Markle‘s surprising advice for when parents are hosting their children’s parties.

The actress and comedian 45, who is set to appear on Meghan’s upcoming Netflix show titled With Love, Meghan, opened up about the former working Royal’s knack at throwing kids’ in a new interview with Time.

During the chat, Mindy gushed that Meghan, 43, is down-to-earth and knows how to entertain when it comes to celebrating. The actress also insisted that there are no airs and graces about Meghan when it comes to showing how ‘real’ she is – despite being a part of the Royal family.

“I think a misconception about Meghan is that she’s in any way fussy or has expectations of fanciness. She really is a down-to-earth person who knows a lot of fun tricks to make entertaining and cooking easier,” the Office star said. Mindy went on to reveal that she first met Meghan while on maternity leave. Prince Harry’s wife had text her asking if she wanted to come for dinner at their home – and Meghan’s hosting skills didn’t go unnoticed by Mindy.

When asked if she picked up any particular hosting skills, Mindy admitted that when it comes to throwing children’s parties, Meghan knows exactly what she’s doing. She said: *-“The theme was throwing a party for children. I love cooking, but I’m really not good at entertaining. I don’t know anything about how you’re not supposed to use overhead lighting when people come over.

“You’re supposed to use little lamps. But Meghan just knows how to do that stuff. For kids’ parties I usually just go to the party supply store and get paper things, which I don’t judge and neither does she. But it was fun to learn simple ways to do a homemade kids’ party,” she shared.

After sharing Meghan’s hosting tips, some fans took to issue with Meghan’s seemingly ‘out of touch’ tips. Royal News Network kicked off the debate with a post that read: “Sure, that advice works, if you own a $15 million mansion! But for the average Joe, they wouldn’t do that. Gosh, this thing sounds so out of touch!! If you artfully place lamps around your home rather than using, I don’t know, the light switch to turn the lights on, please let me know.”

Someone else commented: “How many lamps one would need to light an entire mansion? I suppose it’s easier for the ‘average Joe’ to be honest. Not as much space etc.” Another commenter said: “So the average person on an average income is supposed to go out and buy a bunch of lamps and then try and find somewhere to store them. Give me a break.”

“Cringe. Why would you need an excessive amount of lamps at a kid’s party? As if they’re going to notice if the overhead lights are on? Weird advice.” However, others felt it was a sweet piece of advice from Meghan. “Lamps make the home more homely and cosy. That’s what she’s probably trying to do for her children.” Another echoed: “Why are people so pressed about lamps??? Whoever turns on the main lights in any rooms need help. Lamps are life.”

With Love, Meghan premieres March 4, with all eight episodes available to stream from launch. The series was originally scheduled for January 15, but was delayed due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires
