Daily US Times, Mumbai: Mumbai Traffic Police in collaboration with FCB Interface has launched The Punishing Signal campaign to unravel ever-growing menace of pointless honking.
The campaign concerned putting in particular decibel meters that have been connected to traffic alerts throughout the island metropolis. That is how it works.
Particular decibel meters have been connected to traffic signals throughout the island metropolis.
When the decibel exceeded a harmful 85dB, the signal timer would reset itself… forcing the people to attend longer on the signal. Thus ‘punishing’ them for their impatience with the message, honk more, wait for more.
Under Madhukar Pandey, Jt. Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mumbai Police, honking is an act of traffic indiscipline. Sadly, many Mumbaikars bask in reckless honking.
This campaign is Mumbai Police’s try and curb this menace and drive Mumbaikars to undertake traffic self-discipline.
“This small experiment is one of many attempts by Mumbai Police to create higher street self-discipline in Mumbai.
Hopefully, it’ll encourage Mumbaikars to honk much less, and create a noise-free and stress-free commute,” he added.
As part of the campaign, the primary leg of activation was tested in Mumbai at important junctions which might be most vulnerable to heavy traffic such as CSMT, Marine Drive, Peddar Street, Hindmata and Bandra.
The video film provides glimpses of the confused honking Mumbaikars who honked, waited, honked and learnt it the laborious manner, that honking shouldn’t be the way out.
For Robby Mathew, chief creative officer, FCB Interface, typically, the stick works higher than the carrot.
“A signal that gave us a delicate rap on the knuckles for honking unnecessarily appeared like a good idea to me,” he elaborated.
“We now have been partnering Mumbai Police for a few years.
