Netflix unveils ‘addictive’ drama that’s been dubbed the new Grey’s Anatomy

Netflix has launched its very own medical drama that is set to have hearts racing and rival Grey’s Anatomy.

The huge streaming platform has teased its latest high intensity drama, Pulse, that is set to be a hit with viewers. It sees Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center grapple with their demanding jobs as a hurricane dramatically barrels towards the hospital. Lead character Dr. Danny Simms, who is played by Willa Fitzgerald, is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips, played by Colin Woodell, is suspended.

Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them begin to spill out. The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes.

Because for the tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patients lives is often less complicated than living their own. Pluse’s creator, creator, showrunner and executive producer Zoe Robyn told Netflix Tudum: “We wanted these characters to be real people who have to go through the relatable issues of working together in a pressure cooker. Relationships are forming and breaking apart on Pulse.”

Showrunner and executive producer Carlton Cuse added: “Nowadays, your work family can really be, apart from your literal family, the most important community you have. The complications that arise — between what’s going on off the clock and on the clock — can get messy. It can get confusing. That’s what we wanted to explore with Pulse.”

All 10 episodes of Pulse will drop on Netflix on April 3. The drama was filmed in Miami, where the show is set, as well as Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kate Dennis (New Amsterdam, The Handmaid’s Tale) is an executive producer and directs the first two episodes, with the cast including Willia Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell, Justina Machado, Jack Bannon, Jessie T. Usher, Chelsea Muirhead, Daniela Nieves and Jessy Yates.

Néstor Carbonell, Jessica Rothe, Santiago Segura, Ash Santos and Arturo Del Puerto form part of the additional cast. Executive producers include Bradley Gardner, Emma Forman, Michael Klick, Kate Dennis. Fans are already excited about the new drama as one said: “Looks intense and thrilling Can’t wait to watch pulse and see this amazing cast in action.” Another added: “You had me at Colin Woodell.” Someone else commented: “I love this!!! Definitely watching.” A fourth wrote: “How did you know that I love medical shows?” Another declared: “I’m obsessed already!”

PULSE is launching on Netflix on 3rd April
