New weather maps show when and where Brits face biggest chance of snow this weekend

New weather maps show when and where Brits will face the highest likelihood of seeing snow this weekend.

The WXCharts maps, which use MetDesk data, show vast swathes of the country turning shades of blue to bright orange, indicating the increased likelihood of snowfall in regions of the UK. According to the maps, the west coast of the UK will see the highest chance of the white stuff falling.

Maps for Sunday February 16 show nearly half of the country having some likelihood of experiencing snowfall. From 12am western Scotland, the Highlands, the North East of England and parts of Yorkshire have between a 70 per cent to 90 per cent chance of snowfall.

Brits living north of the border will also experience a probability of snowfall from anywhere between 40 per cent to 60 per cent with it being more likely the further east they are. Lincolnshire, the Midlands, East Anglia and northern Wales also see a probability of 20 per cent around this time.

Fast forward six hours and it becomes even more likely that snow will fall in the Highlands and western Scotland. Otherwise conditions remain roughly the same for much of the country.

By 12pm on the Sunday, people living in Scotland’s central belt and border region will also face a greater chance of seeing snowfall. Maps indicate these regions will also have a probability of between 80 per cent to 90 per cent.

The likelihood of snow falls slightly in the northern regions with those living in Scotland’s central belt seeing about a 60 per cent chance while the Highlands and North East remain at about 70 per cent. Meanwhile, the Met Office has shared its forecast for the weekend.

The Met Office said conditions will be “rather cloudy and breezy” across Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England today with some rain and hill snow in western Scotland. Forecasters said conditions will change up from between Saturday to Monday

“Mostly dry, often cloudy and cold in the east and northeast,” the Met Office said. “Weakening bands of rain and perhaps snow moving in from the west and southwest, where turning milder. Often breezy.”

Moving into next week, conditions will remain mostly dry and bright but will feel cold with a brisk south-easterly breeze. But toward the end of the month frontal zones will made “erratic” progress east across all parts of the country, bringing some rain, wind and notably milder conditions as winds come in from the Atlantic.
