Perfume lasts ‘hours’ if you spray it on your body with common item

People who want to get “compliments all day” about how they smell might think that spraying perfume all over your skin is the answer. However, there’s a much subtler way that won’t see you burn through your favourite fragrance as quickly.

People have been sharing this ‘hack’ on social media sites like TikTok with a trick to make your perfume last much longer. It’s all about where you apply it, and this method doesn’t require spraying on your wrists, neck or chest – instead, it involves your hair.

Your hair may not be the first place you think of spraying your perfume. However, many people online say adding a few spritzes of their go-to fragrance onto their hairbrush and combing it through works wonders. Some swear it makes the scent last “for hours”, resulting in “so many compliments”.

A little goes a long way with TikTok users applying a few sprays and running it through their dried hair as they style it. The beauty trick has resulted in thousands of videos as women refuse to gatekeep this life hack, which has hair smelling sensational “for hours”.

One user showed how it’s done. Keisha sprayed her brush a couple of times, then waved it in the air for a few seconds to allow the alcohol to evaporate before combing it through her hair.

However, experts have warned against spraying perfumes directly onto your hair. Whilst it’s not the worst thing you could be putting on your head, directly applying perfumes might lead to issues later.

According to Healthline, perfume has the potential to damage your hair depending on the ingredients in each bottle. The report claims that “most perfumes and body mists are made with harsh alcohols, like ethyl alcohol, and heavy synthetic fragrances”.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ethyl alcohol can dry skin and hair. For this reason, “many cosmetics choose to use other alcohols in their formulas. Untreated dryness can cause long-term damage, such as breakage, split ends, and frizziness.”

Similar ‘hacks’ have been shared online to help expensive perfumes last as long as possible. One trick involves using Vaseline to create a barrier between your skin and the perfume, slowing how quickly the scent is absorbed and fades away.
