An actress and former Miss Asia World has died aged just 33 from a viral infection while pregnant with her second baby.
Syrian actress Angy Morad, best known for her roles in TV dramas, was admitted to intensive care in late January before succumbing to the viral infection on Sunday, February 9. Concerns over her health spread after she posted a worrying message on Facebook just days earlier. She typed: “I am dying, forgive me.”
Reports said she had been fighting pneumonia before being moved to intensive care. Her husband Samer later said on her account: “Angy is in a difficult situation between life and death. Please pray for her.” Later her mother posted to Facebook, confirming her daughter had died. She wrote: “May God have mercy on you, my daughter.”
Angy was born in the Syrian capital Damascus in 1992, and after graduating from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, she began her acting career in 2007. She is best known for her roles in Syrian drama series such as Baqaa Daw 13 and Al-Gharib. She stepped out of the limelight in 2020 before returning to acting in the series Souq Al Haramia, which began airing on January 19, this year.
Angy found international fame in 2017 when she was crowned Miss Asia World. She leaves behind her husband and a young daughter.
