West Ham United have seen a staggering 29,000 season ticket holders walk away from the club since their move to the London Stadium.

It will be nine years this summer since the Hammers quit Upton park – their home for over a century – to relocate to their 62,500-capacity stadium, home of the 2012 Olympics.

However, fans have voiced concerns about the lack of atmosphere in the multi-purpose venue, which wasn’t designed exclusively for football, ever since. Those sentiments are echoed in recent season ticket figures released by Claret and Hugh.

From the initial 50,000 who signed up for season tickets for West Ham’s inaugural season at the London Stadium, 29,000 have chosen not to renew. While this doesn’t necessarily mean only 21,000 original supporters remain —some may have temporarily opted out and returned —it’s a worryingly high decline in a short period of time.

In the worst years, 2017 and 2021, only 89 percent and 88 percent of fans renewed their season tickets, translating to over 5,000 supporters dropping out each time. In 2024, West Ham boasted 48,500 regular season ticket holders, down from a peak of 55,000 in 2022 and 2023.

Earlier this month, Hammers fans staged protests against ticket prices and the removal of concessions for certain supporter groups.

It has been a difficult campaign for the Hammers, the appointment of Julen Lopetegui not working and an expensively assembled side struggling in the post-David Moyes era.

Now Graham Potter, who took over from the former Spain and Real Madrid boss, is looking to drag the Hammers up the table and put Lopetegui’s disappointing tenure firmly in the club’s rear-view.

The hope, for the Hammers top brass, is that successful football under the ex-Brighton and Chelsea boss, will make trips to the London Stadium more appealing to fans once more.
