Daily US Times: President Trump appears to have admitted that coronavirus is “running wild” across the United States, in contrast with his statements and claims throughout the election campaign that the country was “rounding the turn” on the coronavirus pandemic.
As new Covid-19 cases in the U.S. approached 200,000 a day, Trump tweeted on Saturday night to insist things were bad outside the U.S. as well: “The Fake News is not talking about the fact that ‘Covid’ is running wild all over the World, not just in the U.S.”
The U.S. recorded 195,500 new cases on Friday, a global and U.S. record, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The country passed 12m cases on Saturday, by far the largest total in the World.
During the election campaign, the US President repeatedly asserted that the U.S. was “rounding the turn” on coronavirus and that the country would hear a lot less about the pandemic after 4 November.
on Saturday, his tweet insisted the “fake news” forgets to mention that “far fewer people are dying when they get Covid”.
On Saturday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that it had issued an emergency use authorisation for the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ antibody therapy that was given to the president Trump when he had Covid-19 in October.
It comes as daily deaths in the country were approaching the figures seen during the first months of the pandemic. More than 2,000 Americans died from Covid on Thursday, the highest figure since May.
