Daily US Times, St Petersburg: Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked US president Doland Trump for the intelligence that helped ruin ‘acts of terrorism’ on Russian soil.

In a Kremlin statement said, the two leaders spoke on the phone on Sunday, but it provides no further information regarding the intelligence.

Russian media is reporting the discovery of the potential terrorist attack to St Petersburg in the new year period. The Russian intelligence agency FSB said, two Russian citizens have been arrested for planning an attack a mass gathering.

In December 2017, Putin thanked Trump for another intelligence which reportedly prevented a terrorist plot in St Petersburg. During that call, Putin promised to share information about terrorist threats to the US too.

Putin and Trump talked several times over the phone since Trump took office. Record shows they talked the issues like Syria, North Korea, nuclear agreements and trade.

The Russia-US relations plummeted after Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014. The relation further get soured when the US intelligence agencies concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

But before Trump even took office, he praised Putin several times publicly, which indicates the relation between the two nations would become normal. After Trump took office, their personal relations appeared to be good, and both have vowed to co-operate on terrorism.

Putin invites Trump in Russia’s victory day celebration in Moscow next May. Trump indicated he is considering to attend.
