Daily US Times, Washington: A Russian spy ship has emerged in the US coast and operating in an unsafe manner, the US Coast Guard and military commands said Tuesday.

The ship has ranged from North Carolina to Florida over the past few days. A spokesman said The U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) keep close eyes on the ship.

A spokeswoman named Capt. Pamela Kunze said ‘We are aware of Russia’s naval activities, including the deployment of intelligence collection ships in the region. While we won’t discuss specific measures being taken, NORAD and USNORTHCOM routinely conduct air and maritime operations to ensure the defence of the United States and Canada.’

The coast guard has issued a marine safety bulletin about the ship, which has been operating in an unsafe manner. It was issued to warn the vessels in the region that the Russian ship could be failing to respond to radio calls, or could be sailing without running lights. The ship has been identified as a Russian navy surveillance vessel named Viktor Leonov.

Last several years Russian military buzzed US warships and exercised provocative behaviour what Pentagon called as unsafe and unprofessional.

A Russian navy ship nearly collided with the USS Chancellorsville in the East China Sea in June. US naval officials blamed on Russia about the incident.
