Sky is set to welcome a new dramedy, Small Town, Big Story, which takes place in the made-up Irish town of Drumban.
The six-episode series is packed with big names, including Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks as Wendy Patterson and House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine portraying Seamus Proctor.
Joining them on the roster is Ruth McCabe, known from Silent Witness, who will be seen as Betty Battles in the upcoming series.
Ruth is familiar to BBC audiences for her role as Wyn Ryan, Dr. Sam Ryan’s sister, in Silent Witness, where she featured from 1996 to 1998 across three seasons.
Additionally, viewers may recall Ruth from her performances as Kay Curley in The Snapper directed by Stephen Frears and as Mary, the love interest of Christy Brown, in My Left Foot, reports the Irish Mirror.
The ensemble cast for Small Town, Big Story also includes Eileen Walsh, Leia Murphy, David Rawle, Patrick Martins, Evanne Kilgallon, Andrew Bennett, and David Wilmot.
Sky’s official summary states: “The six-part series is about the fictional town of Drumban, a rural village of rattled misfits on the border of Ireland and another world, and what happens when a Hollywood production rolls into town and throws the spotlight on a secret that’s been kept hidden since the eve of the Millennium.”
Speaking to Variety about his new series Small Town, Big Story, IT Crowd favourite Chris opened up about how the show delves into his complex relationship with both Hollywood and his homeland of Ireland.
He revealed his personal struggles amid the pandemic, confessing: “Maybe it was more about examining my own relationship with both places.”
Chris shared insights from his creative process during the pandemic, adding: “I wrote this in the utter f***ing pits of lockdown, which is why I think it took an almost cosmic turn and became something quite out of your head.
“I was in lockdown in Canada, where we were shooting another movie, when the opportunity to write something came along.”
Discussing the unique challenges he faced at the time, Chris admitted: “It’s the only time I’ve ever felt in my life where I wasn’t really in control. I was just struggling to keep awake to write down all of these thoughts flowing through me. It was great craic.”
Small Town, Big Story is coming to Sky in the UK and Ireland and will premiere on Thursday, February 27.
