Feline intruders in your garden can be a real bother, particularly when they trample and ruin your plants.
Luckily, there’s a straightforward solution to deter them, and it involves repurposing something you’d usually chuck in the bin. Many of us dispose of our coffee grounds after brewing a fresh pot, but these leftovers can actually serve several useful purposes in the garden.
Insight Security suggests that one such use is keeping cats at bay. They explained: “The strong smell of coffee can be enough to keep cats off of your garden.”
They advised: “Simply take your fresh, wet coffee grounds and distribute them around your borders and plants where you want to discourage feline attention. What’s more, the coffee grounds are entirely biodegradable so they will decompose and enrich your soil.”
But that’s not all – coffee grounds can also help fend off slugs, reports the Express. Steve Chilton, Gardening expert and director of LeisureBench, shared: “You can also use coffee grounds as a natural deterrent for certain pests.”
He added: “Most commonly, they are used as a natural method how to get rid of slugs. Coffee grounds have been known to deter slugs and snails due to its abrasive texture and smell.
“Sprinkling coffee grounds around vulnerable plants can create a barrier which can often help keep them away.”
