Daily US Times: The killing of Sir David Amess, a Conservative MP, is being treated as an act of terrorism, police said.
On Friday, Sir David Amess, 69, was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
There was a potential link to Islamist extremism, according to the Metropolitan Police. A British man, aged 25, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Priti Patel, the UK Home Secretary, paid tribute to Sir David and described him as a “man of the people” who was “killed doing a job he loved”.
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the UK laid flowers at the scene on Saturday morning. Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer also paid tribute to Mr Davis.
Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle also paid respects outside Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
Ms Patel said: “We are all struggling to come to terms with the fact that David Amess has been so cruelly taken away from all of us.”
Ms Patel has asked police forces to immediately review security arrangements for MPs. She said that a balance could be found to allow face-to-face meetings with constituents to continue.
She said: “We will carry on, we live in an open society, a democracy. We cannot be cowed by any individual or any motivation… to stop us from functioning”.
Sir David had been a Member of the Parliament since 1983 and was married with four daughters and a son. Mr Davis is the second serving MP to be killed in recent years, following the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox in July 2016.
