Daily US Times, Washington: President Donald Trump gave his third State of the Union speech amid his impeachment proceedings. The speech clearly proved divided congress and divided reactions. The President appeared to snub handshake from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the person who opens his impeachment proceedings. Later, Pelosi tore up Trump’s speech.

In his one hour and 18 minutes long speech, Trump described his administration’s successes. He praised “heroic” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who are tasked with enforcing immigration policy within America’s borders.

“Tragically, there are many cities in America where radical politicians have chosen to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegal aliens”, Trump said ””In sanctuary cities, local officials order police to release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public, instead of handing them over to ICE to be safely removed.”

While the President was saying this, cameras pan over California lawmakers as Trump speaks, since that state recently declared the entire state to be a “sanctuary” zone.

Trump urged lawmakers “to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies”.

“Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God.”

Abortion issue is a hot-button cultural issue that drives a wedge between Democrats and Republicans.

The president continues attacking Democrats over healthcare.

He said “Over 130 legislators in this chamber have endorsed legislation that would bankrupt our nation by providing free taxpayer-funded healthcare to millions of illegal aliens forcing taxpayers to subsidize free care for anyone in the world who unlawfully crosses our borders.”

As Trump was saying this, Nancy Pelosi, sitting beside him appeared to mouth “that’s not true”.

He further added: “If forcing American taxpayers to provide unlimited free healthcare to illegal aliens sounds fair to you, then stand with the radical left. But if you believe that we should defend American patients and American seniors, then stand with me and pass legislation to prohibit free Government healthcare for illegal aliens!”

After the president ended his speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped up her printed copy of Trump’s speech as lawmakers applauded the end.

Trump mentioned the killing of Qasem Soleimani in the speech.

“Soleimani was the Iranian regime’s most ruthless butcher, a monster who murdered or wounded thousands of American service members in Iraq,” Trump said.

“Last month, at my direction, the US military executed a flawless precision strike that killed Soleimani and terminated his evil reign of terror forever,” Trump said as the audience applauded.

Just after Trump’s speech, several US media reported fact checks where they mentioned the lies and misinformation the president provided in his speech.

Trump claimed that for the first time in 51 years, “the cost of prescription drugs actually went down”.

The BBC reported citing the data of Bureau of Labour Statistics’ Consumer Price Index (CPI), in the year to May 2019, the average monthly cost of prescription drugs fell by 0.2%, which measures the increase in the cost of household items in the US.

Trump claimed US-Mexico-Canada Agreement “will create nearly 100,000 new high-paying American auto jobs.”

CNN reports that It’s difficult to predict what will happen in the future. But a report from the Trump Administration’s own Office of US Trade Representative put the number at 76,000 jobs over five years.
